TEST YOUR CAREER

Career education is about making you grow as a person so that your value will permanently increase in the eyes of your employers, your colleagues, your clients, your associates and, most importantly, yourself. Career advice is there to help on this and suggest the adequate career training. But, what do you really know about your own career? Career tests are a valuable tool.

First, you need to know what your vocational identity is. Vocational identities have four components:

• Abilities.
What are you able to do? Skills you have learned so far in life and your areas of potential.

• Interests.
What do you like to do? What catches your interests, efforts and energies. This is very important as you will tend to effortlessly excel in the areas related to your interests. You’ll be a “natural” at those.

• Personality.
How do you tend to interact with the people, data and things in the world around you?

• Work Values.
What do you want from your work? Both tangible (e.g., money) and intangible things.

After your vocational identity has been established, a career test will help you and your career advice expert to get a clearer picture of where you are and what steps you should take. Career tests cannot provide magic answers but they help you to have a better understanding of your vocational identity and thus to seek and generate additional career options. Career tests help you scan a wider range of possibilities than you might be able to imagine on your own. Your further career education may well be decided on their results.

Your career advisor or career consellor is the right person to choose the career tests that are adequate for you, and then helping you to interpret the results. But you can also test your career yourself with online tests.
